India being a signatory to the resolution of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which adopts 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it is the obligation on the part of the State Government to adopt these 17 SDGs for its Vision Plan. This require a more inclusive framework that will take the State forward on a sustainable, faster and inclusive growth platform.

NITI Aayog is the Nodal Agency in India which undertakes mapping of SDG Goals and Targets with Schemes, identification of Nodal Ministries and Government Departments for each of the Goals and Targets. At the State level, Planning Departments are the Nodal Department for implementation of SDGs in each State. In Mizoram, Planning & Programme Implementation Department is the Nodal Department for implementation of SDGs. Planning & Programme Implementation Department is the Nodal Department for implementation of SDGs in Mizoram.

The Department has established SDG Cell to streamline implementations of SDGs so as to ensure that it increases the efficacy of service and acquires speedy progress on SDGs in the State. Under the supervision and guidance of officers, the SDG Cell have been actively taking various steps toward implementation of SDGs to materialize the goals and targets set forth by the United Nations (UN) to bring about sustainable development in the State. However, there are many challenges the State would have to face. Further, the development strategy for the people in the State will have to be participatory and should be calibrated in their own setting. The successful transformation of Public and Private Investments into developmental outcomes requires a variety of strategic initiatives.
